Vectrus Child Youth Services Aide in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

Under the general direction of the CYS Education Specialist and Education Supervisor, the CYS Program Aide maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years. Implements activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth. Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules. Assists in preparing and implementing program options for children and youth with special requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.

  • Encourages participant interest and establishes a program setting that promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults.

  • Helps to plan and conduct activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth.

  • Uses prepared curriculum and program materials and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment.

  • Helps create adult-made games and play materials (mixing paint and play dough and assembling props for dramatic plays, activities, etc.) and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the CYS lead.

  • Works with trainers and supervisors to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of children and youth.

  • Works with team members to prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules.

  • Promotes and models safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.

  • Cares for special needs children and youth as directed by the lead.

  • Assists children and youth with special projects, homework, and life skills.

  • Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and local installation command personnel.

  • Notes special instructions provided by parents.

  • Ensures children and youth (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instructions.

  • Notifies supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns.

  • Provides care, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards.

  • Ensures team members follow safety, fire, fitness, health, and nutrition procedures and informs supervisor of compliance concerns.

  • Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as directed.

  • Maintains displays and bulletin boards.

  • Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies.

  • Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.

  • Ensures assigned area achieves and maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent.

  • Provides care and supervision to children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years.

  • Completes training requirements using approved materials to include designated training modules.

  • Ensures compliance with law, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD CY programs.

  • Records and reports all accidents and incident involving children to the Program Director and parents.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • Must have high school diploma

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) clearance requiring US Citizenship or Permanent Residency.

  • Skills:

  • Able to professionally interact with all levels of employees and participants, as well as parents, volunteers, and school personnel.

  • Knowledge/demonstrated skill in working with Microsoft Windows and Windows applications.

  • Able to learn new software; experience with CYMS database desired.

  • Able to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions.

  • Able to read, write, and communicate in English at a satisfactory level.

  • Enjoys working with children and youth.

  • Child Care National Agency Check (CNACI) is required, obtained during hiring process.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well

  • The worker is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
