  • What You'll Do

  • The Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Technician gathers, maintains and updates information for the GIS system and uses the data and information to provide reports, drawings, maps and other forms of information for use by the program and program customers. The GIS Technician supports the Civil Engineering Section in its day to day business processes associated with contract requirements. The GIS Technician also provides input on processes and procedures to ensure timely updates and key data is maintained for accurate and reliable data systems. These processes support the successful accomplishment of contract engineering related activities.

  • Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to perform all assigned duties as safely and efficiently as possible to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Ensure accurate and timely updates of the master geospatial information system and all sub systems (layers) maintained by civil engineering. Some sub systems (layers) may be maintained by other personnel to the standard as required by the GIS Technician. Responsible to keep the Common Installation Picture (CIP) updated and associated layers maintained in GEO Base such as base utilities and infrastructure. (45%)

  • Solicit, collect and update new data or updates of existing data as necessary to build and maintain GIs system information for use to support contract requirements, customer requests and asset management programs. These can include but are not limited to: as built drawings of base real property facilitates and infrastructure; data to support sustainment programs, information to graphically depict 10-year maintenance and sustainment programs, condition code maps and historical data used to build long-term planning support.   • Maintain all reproduction and survey equipment necessary to support survey tasking, data gathering equipment. (2%)

  • Maintain and provide centralized storage of GIS files. (5%)

  • Provide accurate field surveys when required to gather GIS information. (2%)

  • Provide support in performing damage assessment for exercises and natural manmade disasters. Provide emergency survey support. Examples include aircraft crash sites and environmental contamination. (2%)

  • Provide briefing slides and maps on an as needed basis with minimal notification. (5%)

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Experience:

  • One (1) year working in a geospatial information systems.

  • Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience:

  • Associate degree in GIS highly desirable.

  • Knowledge and ability of CADD systems greatly desired.

  • Knowledge/experience using Geographic Information Systems software including: ESRI ArcGIS suites and Geospatial peripherals including Trimble GPS data collector use and associate software.

  • Familiarity, knowledge and use of the latest Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment is highly preferred.

  • Ability to perform GIS assignments with no assistance and with minimum input.

  • Skills and Technology Used:

  • Provide excellent customer service with customers and fellow employees.

  • Excellent decision making skills coupled with the ability to comprehend, interpret, apply and follow policies, guidelines, and instructions both oral and written.

  • Capable of operating and maintaining computer and printers necessary to perform GIS functions.

  • ARCGIS, ARCPRO, GIS Survey Equipment

  • Other Requirements:

  • Capable of climbing ladders to access both interior and exterior area of facilities to include roofs and mechanical rooms. Able to work in field environment when required.

  • Ability to function in a fast paced, high energy environment and readily adapt to change.
