Vectrus Senior Technical Advisor - CANES FSET Afloat in Japan

Act as senior technical advisor to Fleet ReadinessDirectorate/C7F/Strike Group Staff as assigned, to support operations of C4ISRsystems and to act as a subject matter expert for operations/testing of CANES.Provide end-to-end technical support for C4ISR, RF, IT system; in particularsupport CANES related networking and applications AOR-wide; provide feedback toCOMSPAWAR/PEO C4I/PEO EIS on system performance, design, and logistics issuesas directed.


As Senior Technical Advisor to Fleet Readiness DirectorateFRD-100 for CANES in the AOR/Staff N6, provide assistance in troubleshootingCANES related C4ISR issues and make recommendations concerning issue resolutionand system employment and optimization.

Works with shipboard technicians, staff officers, In ServiceEngineering Activity (ISEA), and other technicians, installation engineers,Fleet Readiness Directorate staff, and others as required to ensure requiredend-to-end connectivity to satisfy fleet C4ISR requirements.

Work with the Hosted Application and Connected SystemsIntegration Manual (HACSIM)

Provide technical support to the following components inaddition to CANES - Video Distribution System (VDS), Air wing Embarkable Server(AES), Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES), Collaboration at Sea (CAS), Voiceover IP (VOIP), Video Teleconferencing (VTS) and CVDS.

Documents issues and resolution of issues using Remedy.

Provides OJT on systems for shipboard and shore technicians.

Assist shipboard technicians in preparation of systems forinspections.Assist with SOVT.

Candidate must be capable of working independently withlittle or no supervision in a high operations tempo environment, and be willingto work a flexible schedule, including short notice shipboard deployments, andlonger deployment periods of 1-2 months and other overseas travel.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Navy computer systems and Remedy will be used primarily.


Candidate’s primary work will be aboard Navy ships and outof government facilities when not required aboard ship. In order to providerequired service to fleet assets, work at times other than normal working hourswill be required. Premium pay will be paid for underway periods.


Personnel may be required to stand or sit for prolongedperiods of time. Individual must be able to lift up to 30 lbs. unassisted andmeet U.S. Navy medical requirements as detailed in COMUSFLTFORCOM/COMPACFLT6320.3A


Education/Certifications: One year related experience may besubstituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

Minimum of BS in Information Technology (or equivalenttechnical degree) and 6 years technical experience or 10 years technicalexperience with Afloat Navy or Marine Corps C4I required.Certification as IAT2 (per DoD Inst 8750.1and Navy requirements) with appropriate IA certification required and computingenvironment certification required in two or more of the following (Cisco,Microsoft Server, Red Hat, VMWare) highly desired.Strong knowledge of storage technologiesincluding NetApp, IBM, and EMC2 storage highly desired.


Minimum of 6 years of experience with Navy C4I networksrequired.Sufficient experience toprovide support and troubleshooting as listed below:

Experience configuring and troubleshooting Blade CenterServer technology including but not limited to IBM and Oracle devices.

Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Routers,Switches, Identity Services Engines, Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA), andWireless Controls and Access Points.This experience shall include knowledge of OSPF, BGP, ACLs, Firewallsand VLANs on shipboard NIPR, SIPR, SR and SCI Networks.

Knowledge of CAT5 cabling and use of fiber optic medium anddevices.

Experience and/or knowledge configuring and troubleshootingFAS and SAN Storage devices included but not limited to IBM and EMC2, FiberChannel and iSCSI.

Experience loading and configuring software including, butnot limited to, WSUS Server, Windows 2003 Server OS, Windows Server 2008 OS,Windows Server 2012 OS, Windows XP OS, Windows 7 Professional OS, Windows 8 OS,Windows 10 OS, Exchange Server 2003, Exchange Server 2007, Exchange Server2010, SQL Server 2012, and Microsoft Hyper-V; to include knowledge of DNS, WINS,and Active Directory.

Experience loading and configuring software including, butnot limited to, Linux, Sun OS, VMWare, Lotus Sametime Chat, EMC IT IntelligenceOperations (ITOI), and related EMC component software (i.e. Networker).

Experience loading and configuring Host Based SecuritySystem (HBSS).

Experience loading and configuring IAVA security scanningtools including, but not limited to, Retina Network Security Scanner or AssuredCompliance Assessment Solutions ACAS.

Experience loading, configuring, troubleshooting, repairing,and resolving issues of shipboard current and legacy software is required tothe extent necessary for a successful load and integration.

Knowledge in the configuration and use of other hardware andsoftware including, but not limited to, Avocent and Black Box KVM's, ServSwitchKVM's, Alcatel Switches, and CISCO Switches.

Experience integrating and configuring hosted and connectedsystems into existing loaded software and hardware environments.

An understanding of the CANES enclave/load specificapplication settings, their related off-ship connectivity requirements and thetermination requirements of the particular enclave/load being configured.

Knowledge and capability to provide OJT familiarizationtraining to the fleet regarding loading, maintenance, and troubleshooting ofCANES systems.

Excellent written and verbal communications skillsrequired.Experience using Remedy forticket documentation/resolution desired.


Must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing.Must be able to communicate well withsenior Navy officials and technical personnel.Must be able to provide OJT to technical personnel and review/understandtechnical documentation.

Must be able to troubleshoot end-to-end connectivityinvolving multiple sites and systems.
