Vectrus Mechanical Systems Technician in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position will be physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

Under the supervision of the TMP Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Systems Technician provides mechanical systems support services, including maintenance of all associated systems, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and plumbing-related systems, such as engines and pumps for water, fuel and sewage, exterior plumbing, and interior plumbing. Works on and repairs overhead cranes installed in facilities. Is familiar with the repair of systems used to dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, to include recycled materials mechanical systems (i.e. compactors) as well as incinerators. Works within a team of systems technicians to ensure customer satisfaction and timely project completion. Responsible for providing an advanced level of expertise in responding to work orders, troubleshooting, and providing preventive and corrective maintenance on the facility mechanical equipment and systems in an industrial manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and repairs facility mechanical systems; pneumatic and/or hydraulic systems; conveyors; and overhead cranes.

  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots ventilation equipment, pumps, fans, chillers, rooftop AHU’s, split systems, compressors, refrigeration, boilers, etc.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs HVAC equipment, blowers, and fans.

  • Performs welding and fabrication, including building custom fixtures, fabricating brackets, and fabricating maintenance parts or “one off” parts.

  • Performs maintenance on various welders as needed.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs heat exchange equipment.

  • Performs basic pipefitting repairs.

  • Work safely with 3-phase power up to and including 480V.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs basic electrical issues.

  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections and performs required preventive maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, etc.

  • Assists in the movement of machines/fixtures, materials, and equipment as required.

  • Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

  • Responds and provides service and feedback to the customer on all work orders while assuring compliance to codes, regulations, and industry standards.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.

  • Safely performs functions of the position including following proper safety guidelines such as job hazard analysis and lockout/tagout procedures and wearing PPE as required.

  • Operates various measuring, diagnostic and testing instruments to help provide energy efficiency solutions.

  • Operates a variety of equipment such as hand tools, laptop computers and diagnostic hardware to perform work.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Education/Certifications: Two years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • Must be CAC eligible and/or able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC)

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Must provide a copy of the diploma.

  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License

  • Must have at least four (4) years of experience working full-time on gasoline/diesel engines of light/medium/heavy duty equipment of mechanical type systems or equivalent.

  • Ability to meet required deadlines and maintain necessary workflow.

  • Commercial Driver’s license is preferred.

  • Must be able to operate vehicles with a manual transmission.

  • Preferred Qualification:

  • Undergraduate Degree is preferred.

  • HAZWOPER: 40-Hr, 24-Hr, and 8-Hr Refresher; HAZCOM (GHS); Upper Respiratory Protection; Confined Space; Lock Out/Tag Out (LO/TO); Respiratory Fit Testing; SCBA Training, Safe Incinerator Use. All trainings will be refreshed annually and conducted via in-person and online trainings

  • Have current crane or aerial lift certification, or equivalent.

  • Experience:

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in mechanical systems maintenance and sciences

  • Must be proficient in troubleshooting, fault repair and maintenance of hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.

  • Excellent computer, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills required.

  • Computer skills include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and USG Army Information Systems (AIS).

  • Requires excellent organizational skills; with the ability to work under fast paced and adverse conditions.

  • Skills:

  • Provides mechanical systems support services, including maintenance of all associated systems, HVAC, plumbing, and plumbing-related systems, such as water, fuel and sewage, exterior plumbing, and interior plumbing.

  • Is familiar with the systems used to dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, to include recycled materials mechanical systems (i.e. compactors) as well as incinerators.

  • Will operate the incinerator as the primary operator.

  • Works within a team of systems technicians to ensure customer satisfaction and timely project completion.

  • Must be able to set the standard for professional excellence among the maintenance team.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months).

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

  • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard about ambient noise level.

  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals

  • The worker is subject to vibration. Exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
