Vectrus Systems Support Specialist Lead in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position will be physically located in The Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

The Systems Support Specialist Lead is responsible for the administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of site level enclave servers (physical and virtual). The candidate must be able to coordinate and perform system backups, hardware installation, software installation, and system upgrades. Additionally, the candidate must monitor all systems to maintain acceptable levels of availability and performance. The position will also oversee, direct, and support a team of personnel of the Automation Support Department (ASD), consisting of Site Technicians, Computer Service Technicians, Printer Repair Technicians, and Electronic Equipment Maintenance Technicians. Maintain exceptional conduct and discipline, and ensures all subordinates are adequately trained to perform assigned tasks

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Operates and maintains all aspects of server administration (primarily Windows; knowledge of Linux is a plus).

  • Must possess proven experience working in a distributed computing environment.

  • Lead, direct, and provide guidance to a team consisting of Site Technicians, Computer Service Technicians, Printer Repair Technicians, and Electronic Equipment Maintenance Technicians.

  • Directory Services Infrastructure architect/design/support

  • Design, install, and administer virtualization (VMware Infrastructure: ESXi Hosts, vCenter, Resource Pools, vMotion, etc.)

  • Management of Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS), Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) or Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM), Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), and Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).

  • Follow and apply configuration and security standards and policies within a defined Change Management process.

  • Implement common preventive maintenance practices for hardware and software.

  • Ensure that system improvements and changes are implemented correctly and completely and monitor all effects of the modifications.

  • Establish/recommend policies on system use and services.

  • Analyze system logs, identifying potential issues with systems, and implementing resolutions.

  • Write scripts to automate routine day-to-day tasks (PowerShell, Python, etc.).

  • Proficient at hardware maintenance and troubleshooting of various vendor server platforms including Dell, HP, LTO tape library, fiber switch, and SANs.

  • Replacing and upgrading defective or outdated components when necessary.

  • Documenting any processes which employees need to follow in order to successfully work within our computing system.

  • Ensuring data is stored securely and backed up regularly.

  • Monitoring system performance to ensure everything runs smoothly and securely.

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Patient and professional demeanor, with a can-do attitude.

  • Availability outside of working hours to resolve emergency issues.

  • Performs other duties and assignments as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience preferably in Computer Science or MIS, IS, Engineering, Business, or related field.

  • One year of related academic study above the high school level may be substituted for one year of experience up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor's degree in a Business Information Systems discipline for three years' general experience.

  • Project Management methodologies

  • Visualization of quantitative (numerical) or qualitative information

  • Excellent interpersonal, organization, writing, communicating, and briefing skills.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Experience:
  • Strong understanding of architecting, configuring, and supporting Microsoft Windows OS technology including AD Forests, Domains, Trusts, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and Organizational Units.

  • Proven expertise in designing and architecting domain consolidation projects

  • At least three (3) years of practical experience working in an operational environment with a minimum of one year focused on information systems, auditing, evaluation assessments and reporting.

  • The Systems Support Specialist Lead is required to be an expert in all functions of both IAT Level I and IAT Level II positions relating to a Windows Server operating system environment.

  • The Systems Support Specialist Lead must be able to apply extensive knowledge of a variety of the IA field’s concepts, practices, and procedures to ensure the secure integration and operation of all enclave systems (Primarily Commercial, potentially NIPR, SIPR as well).

  • Must be able to rely on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals for the enclave environment.

  • Skills:

  • Supervisory skills including a professional demeanor

  • Work effectively with all levels of employees, including top, middle and other supervisory levels of management.

  • Exercise discretion and good judgment possess high-level organizational, attention to detail and deadlines and planning skills.

  • Ability to communicate orally and in written English and must possess an advanced level of computer skills in the use of Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in various weather conditions (i.e., humidity, hot, rainy).

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

  • The worker may be required to spend extended time in a computer room environment.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.

  • If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
