Vectrus Welder Lead in Marshall Islands

Overview

This position is physically located in the Marshall Islands in support of LOGCAP

Under the Supervision and direction of the Marine Repair Supervisor, the Welder (Lead) is responsible for leading a team of welders and for the duties of a journeyman welder. Welder lead must supervise multiple teams of welders working on separate jobs at the same time. Must be organized and have the knowledge to appropriately prioritize work on multiple vessels in a shipyard ensuring jobs are completed in such a manner that fleet readiness is maximized at all times.

Responsibilities

This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.

  • Mig/Tig aluminum welding;

  • Fabricate and weld on all parts requiring repair on an aluminum hulled, 75' Catamaran;

  • Apply appropriate welding process to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal and aluminum or other materials that will complete the On Condition Cyclic Maintenance of the vessel;

  • Apply appropriate welding processes to join, surface, fabricate, or repair parts of metal or other weld-able materials;

  • Position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools;

  • Lay-out and marks points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe or templates;

  • Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications;

  • Provide guidance and work; leadership to less-experienced welders;

  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures;

  • Participates in special projects as required.;

  • Utilizes blueprints, technical manuals, and drawings to perform work;

  • Trains and mentors team.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education if the degree is required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Certifications:

  • Must be a certified welder with Mig/Tig Aluminum welding experience

  • Must be an ABS Certified MIG and GTAW Aluminum Welder;

  • Possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

  • Experience:

  • (5) years’ experience as a journeyman welder;

  • Knowledge of welding tools and procedures as well as knowledge of geometry, weld shrinkage, welding techniques, and the physical properties of metal;

  • Skills:

  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and storage requirements to meet compatibility of products based on hazard class is required.

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.

  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement is required.

  • Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy is required.

  • Advance ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written form is required.

  • High-level organizational and planning skills, so that workflow is managed and accurate is required.

  • Working Conditions:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, wet, tropical environment with average temperatures of 130 degrees in the summer months). Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
