Overview

The Painter is responsible for accomplishing painting work on maintenance and construction projects. Responsible for the prepping and de-prepping of equipment work ordered to be painted. Prepping includes washing, removing parts from the equipment, masking areas like hoses, windows, lights and any other areas of the equipment as needed prior to painting. performs general labor duties, operates equipment and assists other workers to complete facility and equipment projects.

Responsibilities

  • Accomplishes painting tasks on maintenance and construction projects.

  • Performs minor patching and painting of interior walls, piping, ceilings, floors, furniture, and any other item that requires a paint finish.

  • Performs painting of exterior surfaces of buildings, towers, tanks, and structures.

  • Assists other trades and science groups with various painting tasks, as well as independently accomplishing painting tasks.

  • Works with a wide variety of paints, varnishes, rust inhibitors, and other protective coatings through use of brushes, rollers, and sprayers.

  • Performs finish preparation work utilizing scrapers, sanders, strippers, and media blasters.

  • Advises appropriate supervisors on job progress and material requirements.

  • Interacts professionally with the military, and other agency officials.

  • Complies with work control processes.

  • Coordinates activities with other trades.

  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program, ensuring that safety is the highest priority.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Experience:

  • Three years of (Chemical Agent Resistant Coating) painting experience of various tactical wheeled, track, & ground support equipment. To include painting of Camouflage Paint Patterns & Military Vehicle Stenciling Techniques.

  • Proficient in the use of all required respirators & Personal Protective Equipment.

  • Experience in Hazardous Material Handling & Disposal.

  • Possess or be able to acquire/maintain Government Drivers License.

  • Proficient in the use of Army Technical Manuals.

  • Proficient in Paint Booth, Paint Gun, Paint Pot, Paint Shaker operations/maintenance.

  • Skills:

  • Strong leadership and analytical skills.

  • Effective communication, organizational and time management skills.

  • Good interpersonal and people management skills.

  • High competency and demonstration of engineering skills

  • Working Environment:

  • Must be capable of working in an extreme weather condition with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions (i.e., hot, dry, duty, desert environment with average temperatures of 30 degrees in the winter and 130 degrees in the summer months).

  • Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.

  • Medium to Heavy work. Exerting up to 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.

  • Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.

  • Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
